UW Medicine Pathology provides clinical services in all areas of pathology, providing diagnostic procedures and analysis for more than 80,000 cases a year. We provide comprehensive diagnostic and personalized consultative services to physicians, community hospitals, independent laboratories and other health-care organizations, by combining sophisticated testing and informatics capabilities of fully accredited laboratories with the resources of an academic and teaching institution in its delivery of pathology services.
Under the general supervision of the CYTOLOGY Supervisor, the Clinical Laboratory Technician I will perform laboratory work in support of anatomic pathology technologists, faculty and trainees.
Job Responsibilities:
•Performs laboratory specimen processing consisting of receiving, identifying, sorting, preparation and distribution of pathology specimens
•Accessions CYTOLOGY specimens accurately and follows up on missing information
•Maintains CYTOLOGY specimen archive
•Prepares slides using automated laboratory equipment
•Performs manual staining and coverslipping of CYTOLOGY slides
•Maintains staining setup and prepares chemical reagents according to laboratory procedures
•Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of lab equipment and instruments in accordance with procedures, and documents work completed
•Monitor and replenish lab supplies from inventory
•Provides assistance during Fine Needle Aspiration collection procedures
•Responds to inquiries concerning specimen requirements and case status
•Complies with lab policies, safety regulations, and state & federal requirements
•Performs duties in in support of anatomic pathology services as assigned
Requirements:
High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience OR completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists OR equivalent education/experience.
Desired:
Bachelors of Science in biology, physiology OR related field preferred.
Conditions of Employment:
•Must be able to stand for extended periods of time up to 6 hours
•Must be able to lift and carry objects between 35 to 50 pounds
