STUDENT SERVICES COORDINATOR
Take Stock in Children, Inc. is a non-profit organization with a mission to break the cycle of poverty for low-income, academically qualified students by providing them with opportunities for a postsecondary education. Comprehensive services include direct student support assistance and college and career success coaching for youth across Florida. Students are recruited in middle and early high school and sign a contract to receive comprehensive support through graduation. They benefit from weekly meetings with a volunteer adult mentor, professional college success and career coaching, and promise to remain drug and crime free and maintain high attendance and grades. In exchange, students receive a postsecondary scholarship to mitigate the financial barrier to higher education.
The Position: The Student Services Coordinator will provide direct services to students beginning with the student’s selection and continuing through the implementation of college readiness programming.
Responsibilities:
The Student Services Coordinator will:
- Recruit and select students to participate in the Take Stock in Children
- Develop and offer workshops for students on a variety of college readiness topics including the FASFA and financial aid process, ACT/SAT preparation, college applications,
- Create workshops that offer staff and mentors key strategies and approaches that build college readiness in
- Collaborate with Program Director to plan program activities aligned with the Take Stock model and grant
- Communicate with schools and districts to ensure consistent service
- Document and report on key performance indicators, including student data, mentor participation, and college and career
- Meet with students according to the guidelines set-up by Take Stock in Children (once a semester grades 6-10 & twice a semester for grades 11-12)
- Identify potential problems and intervene when necessary to ensure student success, including direct intervention with students, mentors and guidance counselors.
- Use the Student Roadmaps to document visits with students.
- Update Student Trackers at the end of each semester.
- Maintain an accurate record of student activities, meetings, issues, and college success coach meetings.
- Track compliance with Take Stock in Children program requirements and enter data into the TSIC database including academic performance, attendance, and behavior.
- Collaborate with Guidance Counselors and other education personnel for student success.
- Assist students with college readiness preparations.
- Work in conjunction with the Program Director in planning college readiness workshops on topics such as the development of good study skills, time management, preparations for the SAT/ACT, Career Exploration, completing college applications and the FAFSA.
- Attend all College Readiness Meetings of Take Stock in Children of Citrus.
- Assist in planning Take Stock in Children activities and events.
- Submit an invoice for payment of services twice each month (15th & 30th) to the Board Treasurer.
- Submit a monthly report of activities to the Program Director prior to the end of each month; to include meetings with students, attending board & other meetings, etc.
- Always ensure student & mentor confidentiality.
- Meet with the Program Director once a week at an established day & time; to include student issues, mentor issues and program planning.
- Participate in state conference calls and trainings offered to the local affiliates.
Core Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Passion for working with students and helping break the cycle of poverty through higher education
- Ability to build supportive relationships with at-risk youth
- Strong communication skills and a professional demeanor with students, parents and staff, both in person and over the phone
- Embody a strong connection to Take Stock in Children’s mission and value along with a desire to serve and work with diverse populations, especially disadvantaged youth
- Ability to attend functions in the evening and on weekends as required
- Have access to adequate transportation to attend off-site meetings and functions on a regular basis

- Must be willing to work in the Take Stock in Children Inverness office, at home and in school environments
- Proof of employment eligibility as required by law
- Proof of any diplomas or degrees indicated as a core qualification
- Registered sex offenders (or anyone required to register) or individuals convicted of a felony crime are prohibited from employment with Take Stock in Children
- Two completed reference forms
