Directs the daily operations of a decentralized pharmacy service using established policy and procedures. Supervise technician and support personnel assigned to the pharmacies. Implement new technology as well as help staff pharmacy positions. Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage. Address clinical effects of drugs, provide counseling & assist patients in managing medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking, cessation, or high blood pressure. Communicate with customers & patients regarding their confidential health & drug information.Procuring and storing prescription drugs and devices and other products dispensed from the pharmacy. Disposing of and distributing drugs from the pharmacy, review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability. Order and purchase pharmaceutical supplies, and drugs, maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly. Advise customers on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment and health-care supplies. Maintain records of all transactions of the pharmacy necessary to maintain accurate control over and accountability for all drugs as required by applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Oversee Prescriptions. Pharmacy managers fill prescriptions and check prescriptions filled by pharmacy techs to ensure proper procedures have been followed. Consult with Patients. Pharmacy managers advise patients and give them proper directions for taking prescription drugs, supplements, and over-the-counter medications. Pharmacy managers also address customer problems and complaints. Administer Immunizations. Pharmacy managers administer immunizations and vaccines to patients, following all safety and cleanliness procedures. Adhere to Controlled Substance Laws. Pharmacy managers follow controlled substance protocols in accordance with state and federal laws. Consult with Physicians. Pharmacy managers consult with physicians and medical staff on proper medication dosages before administering medications to patients.
