Livestock Receiving Supervisor - B Shift

The Livestock Receiving Supervisor is responsible for the receiving and recording of market hogs delivered to the Sioux City Iowa processing facility. Will supervise hourly livestock receiving staff and complete other required tasks and activities in the livestock unloading and holding pen areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Activities Related to Receiving of Market Hogs:

Supervise the procedures for receiving and recording market hogs.

  • Documentation, tattooing, moving hogs to receiving pens, segregating stressor hogs, sorting off non-qualifying hogs, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with Seaboard Triumph Foods` humane handling policies and procedures from the time market hogs arrive on the property and until they are driven to the Barn area or resold and exited the property.
  • Ensure compliance with STF policies and procedures for maintaining the proper environment in the livestock unloading and holding pen areas.
  • Opening of Windows and operation of misters, exhaust fans and heaters.
  • Interact professionally with Truck Drivers and assist with unloading trailers when necessary.

Activities Related to Supervision of Livestock Receiving Staff:

  • Supervise the daily activities of the livestock receiving staff.
  • Coordinate work schedules for the livestock receiving staff.
  • Administer all human resource policies and procedures required at the supervisor level for the livestock receiving staff.
  • Supervise and coordinate the training of livestock receiving staff.
  • Initial and ongoing training on all aspects of STF`s livestock receiving, recording and humane handling policies and procedures.

Other Required Tasks and Activities:

  • Supervise and ensure compliance with the clean-up and sanitation procedures for the livestock unloading and holding pen areas.
  • Complete all required audit forms.
  • Maintain the facilities and equipment in good working condition; notify maintenance personnel of any needed repairs.
  • Supervise the feeding of all hogs held for more than 24 hours.
  • Supervise or complete other tasks as directed by the Livestock Scheduling Manager.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the work environment, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required or preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Four or more years related experience in pork processing plants with experience that enables performance in all aspects of the position, including supervisory experience. Well-developed management skills utilizing sound management principles in leading a team of employees.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization. Bilingual (Spanish) would be nice. Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with Hog Suppliers, Truckers and other industry personnel as well as with USDA Inspection team.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Strong mathematical skills with the ability to apply to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems. Display patience if faced with any Animal Welfare complex situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use computers with the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and must be able to effectively work in a normal production environment where temperatures and noise levels may vary as well as an opportunity to work in and around live hogs.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management.
