Responsibilities and Qualifications
Overview: The Respiratory Therapist will work in concert with Nursing and Physician staff to provide accurate admission patient data and diagnostic testing to include but not limited to: vital signs, ECGs, ABGs and Sepsis Screening, Routine and Emergency Respiratory Care interventions on all patient populations, PFT screening and continous patient monitoring, phlebotomy, personal care, cleaning the room, and stocking the supplies.Qualifications: Because you're committed to excellence, you understand the importance of being properly prepared for your role at Mercy. Licensure: Must hold current Arkansas State Respiratory Care License.
Certifications: Active Basic Life Support, Active Advanced Cardiac Life Support,
Other: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Respiratory Therapy Related Skills (Floor Therapy, Ventilator Care (Adult, Infant), ABG's, etc
Preferred Certifications: NRP preferred

Responsibilities:
Demonstrates ability to Set-Up / Troubleshoot / Operate Infant Ventilator. Understands all ventilator modalities (PS, SIMV, A/C, CPAP, ViVe, VG,) and competently troubleshoots ventilator alarms (low Vt, leak, dirty flow sensor, etc.). Includes cleaning / testing / checkoff.
Demonstrates clinical ability / competency to set-up / operate Adult Ventilators. Competently uses all modalities. Competently troubleshoots all alarms. Includes cleaning / testing / EST Testing.
Demonstrates clinical ability / competency to set-up / operate transport ventilator. Includes cleaning / testing.
Adheres to bloods gas quality control policy & procedure.
Demonstrates competency in Floor Therapy (Incentive Spirometry, Updraft Therapy, MDI administration, CPT, patient assessment, pulse oximetry, etc.). and competency in using ABI Vest. Suggest using Vest on appropriate patients with appropriate settings.
Demonstrates competency in performance of EKG Testing and EKG Paperwork.
Demonstrates competency in High Risk Deliveries (C-Section, Meconium).
Demonstrates competency in delivery and scanning of Respiratory Therapy related medications (i.e. Bronchodilators, Inhaled Steroids, Leukotrine Inhibitors, Mucolytics, etc.).
Assumes team leader role when work load is high. Gives direction for triage of patients.
Assures all shift work responsibilities are completed.
Demonstrates ability / competency to operate / set-up Infant Flow Device (SiPAP) (includes sizing of headgear & nasal prongs & assessing for skin breakdown).
Demonstrates ability / competency in performance of blood gas draws, A-Line Draws, capillary gas's (adult, infant, pediatric).
Demonstrates competency in measurement of blood gas results (as it relates to patient care/treatment) and troubleshooting all Blood Gas Machines / Co-Oximetry.
Demonstrates competency in treatment of pediatric patients (includes therapy, Incentive Spirometry, RSV Wash, pulse oximetry, patient assessment, education, etc.).
Reviews master treatment sheet and EMR medication sheet to ensure appropriate therapy for clinical diagnosis.
Demonstrates competency in Respiratory Physiology / Anatomy.
Demonstrates competency in performance of specialized testing (i.e. bedside pulmonary function testing).
Demonstrates competency in charting all modalities in the EMR per policy. Includes ventilator charting, patient assessment/goals sheet, heart teach, oxygen rounds charting, ventilator charting, weaning trials, etc.
Demonstrates competency & promotes usage of Protocols (CABG, IS, Oxygen, MDI Bedside, Asthma, Patient Driven Protocol, Heliox).
Demonstrates ability / competency in setting up High Flow High Humidity (Vapotherm)
