Building InspectorGadsden County Board of County Commissions
Prepares daily inspection and investigation reports and maintains appropriate files and records of inspections. Confers with and interprets code requirements for contractors, engineers, architects and the public. Checks zoning and setback requirements for proposed structure(s). Assist the building official in performing general maintenance of assigned county buildings and performs inspections as required. Enforces County and state building, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and related codes, ordinances and laws. Maintains records on commercial projects, stop work orders, inspections and reinspections performed, certificates of occupancy, current codes and related unit activities. Checks commercial plans for code compliance prior to issuing building permits. Reviews final inspections and approves certificates of occupancy. Enforces all building, plumbing, and electrical codes and ordinances of the state and County. Participates in establishing rules and standards governing the quality of work, interprets established standards, and determines their applicability to work situations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Standard Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and National Electrical Code; state and County regulations relating to building inspection; County zoning ordinances; construction materials and their proper uses; trade names of building materials, construction terminology; construction methods; safety standards; local fire codes; and contractor licensing requirements. Ability to read and interpret blueprints; establish effective working relationships with builders, developers, contractors, employees, and general public; enforce codes with firmness and objectivity; communicate clearly; maintain accurate records; ability to read maps; ability to work independently and effectively performing building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical inspections.
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent and five years of work experience as a building, plumbing, electrical or mechanical contractor. Applicant must have passed the electrical, plumbing, block exam or State Certified Exam as a contractor. Must have the 1&2 family dwelling ICC (International Code Council) certification or the ability to obtain the certification within one year of employment as required by F.S 468. Must possess a valid state of Florida Driver’s License with a favorable driving record.
