Concrete Laborers and Finishers

Working knowledge: Determines Pay. Must have transportation. A concrete laborer's job description includes setting up the forms in which concrete is poured to create walkways, walls, pillars and other structures. They introduce rebar or wire mesh to reinforce the material, use trowels and other tools to spread and smooth concrete, and mold expansion joins and edges. Because curing time can vary by temperature, wind and other environmental factors, laborers must monitor the material to ensure it hardens to a durable finish. Other concrete laborer job duties include coloring the finished concrete, adding small stones for decoration, and applying waterproofing and other sealants. Concrete Finishers pour, level and smooth concrete for surfaces such as roads, curbs, floors, and sidewalks. Duties may include cutting expansion joints with a power saw, aligning forms to desired depth and pitch, directing the casting of concrete, preparing and cleaning surface areas, and completing moldings using a variety of hand-held and power tools.
