Quality Control/Construction Inspector
Century Engineering is seeking highly motivated and detailed-oriented Construction Inspectors to oversee and support the construction of roadway and bridge related transportation projects. Although these positions will report to management within our Fairfax office location, anticipated work assignments are concentrated in the Tidewater region of Virginia. As a member of our construction management team, inspectors are required to perform a variety of technical and administrative functions.
Responsibilities:
- Provide quality assurance (QA) review for transportation construction projects.
- Identify and document construction and/or QC deficiencies from applicable contract/standard specifications by analyzing applicable codes, standards and project contract documents.
- Read and interpret construction plans for structures, bridges and roadways and understanding construction specifications, engineering tables and reference materials.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents.
- Assist in review and respond to contractor RFIs.
- Travel to various work sites.
- Exercise a certain degree of independent thought and judgment.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of VDOT experience and knowledge of bridge, structure and roadway construction methods, materials and practices.
- High School diploma or GED. AA degree related to Engineering or Construction Management highly preferred.
- Current/valid State Drivers' License REQUIRED with an acceptable driving record.
- Skilled at interpreting construction contract documents with a strong ability to maintain/prepare a variety of records, including daily/weekly progress reports and material accounting records.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Doc Express.
- One or more technical certifications pertaining to asphalt, concrete, soils and aggregate, maintenance of traffic, erosion and sediment control, and storm water management required.
- Proficient in the use of engineering and testing equipment.
- Ability to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine minor field adjustments to construction plans using algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work during either daytime or nighttime shifts, including weekends.
